The post-mortem examination report into the death of the girl child at Betalbatim on Tuesday has revealed that she died due to asphyxia.
The Colva police has already arrested the girl’s mother, Azea Rodrigues in connection with the murder, following a complaint lodged by her mother-in-law, Sebastina Rodrigues.
Colva PI Rahul Parab said the accused mother, who was produced before the JMFC, Margao on Wednesday, has been remanded to two day police custody.
To a question on the autopsy report, PI Parab said the post-mortem examination has revealed that the child died due to asphyxia.
Incidentally, in her complaint to the Colva police, the mother-in-law had alleged that the accused had smothered her two years and four month old daughter to death as she was frustrated with her life.
To another question, PI Parab said the accused woman will be sent to the IPHB for medical examination as a matter of routine examination.
Asked to comment on reports that the woman suffered bouts of depression as evident by her violent behaviour at the police station on Wednesday, PI Parab said the police are investigating the case, and that the woman would be sent to the IPHB for medical examination.
The child was found lying dead on the first floor of her house at Betalbatim on Tuesday noon. She was declared brought dead at Hospicio on Tuesday evening, after which the Colva police subjected the child’s mother, Azea to interrogation. Azea was later arrested after her mother-in law-lodged a complaint stating that her daughter-in-law had killed the child daughter by smothering her.
